Meals From The Heart/Continuing Colleen’s Contributions to Red Shoe Society

Mar 9, 2021

Tonight the Gleason family purchased a meal to be served at the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in downtown Chicago next to the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. This was arranged through the efforts of Colleen’s brother, Michael, who serves on the Corporate Partnership Committee with Red Shoe Society (RSS).

The Gleason family chose the Potbelly Sandwich Shop to deliver a delicious dinner enjoyed by families staying at RMH. Colleen’s family remembers the feeling of comfort having a place to stay and rest nearby Lurie Children’s. RMH explains, “Families staying at a Ronald McDonald House are often far from the comforts of home, including freshly prepared meals. Through Meals from the Heart, volunteers provide meals for families, allowing them to eat together without the stress of cooking or the expense of dining out. Meals from the Heart is a great way to give families a taste of home.”

Anyone can sponsor a Meal from the Heart, and there is always a big need at the houses. You can see available dates at all locations via the calendars on their website:

RSS has made Colleen a Leadership Team Member In Memorium and shares this lovely tribute to her on their website notice the mention of Colleen’s love of food, making the meal tonight a fitting tribute to her!

Colleen was raised in Crystal Lake, IL (but always knew she was a city girl at heart) and held a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She was Corporate Project Manager at G2 which she absolutely loved! Colleen had two heart transplants (one at the old Children’s Memorial Hospital at age three and one at Lurie Children’s at age 20) and her family stayed at the RMH near Lurie’s for her second transplant. While she was recovering, they were having as lovely a stay as possible. She gave back to the organization that gave her family so much by joining the Red Shoe Society and becoming the co-chair of the Volunteer Events Committee. Aside from Red Shoe Society and work, Colleen loved eating her way through the city, reading anything she could get her hands on, and saying yes to way too many other activities across this amazing city! https://rmhccni.org/get-involved/councils/red-shoe-roster/
