Happy 30th Birthday

October 13, 2022 - Happy 30th birthday, Colleen!

Today Colleen’s parents, Christine and Mike Gleason, spent the day giving gifts in honor of Colleen Care’s mission to improve community and help children through donations to other charities that were meaningful to Colleen. Full of inspiration from the way Colleen lived her life, and following Colleen’s lead, thirty acts of kindness were performed in her honor, as Colleen taught her own mom to accomplish!

Thirty years ago (1992) was magical. Christine gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Mike and she were overjoyed and named her Colleen Marie.

All I wanted was to be a mom. What a blessing my baby girl is. I do not say “was” because she is still with me. She will always be with me and by my side. She inspires me to go on every single day. Even on my toughest days her voice is telling me “come on let’s go! I need you to continue my legacy!” - Christine Gleason

Earlier this month, Mike and Christine focused on doing three acts of kindness a day to get to a total of 30 honoring Colleen’s 30th birthday. Anyone who knows them also knows that they do random acts of kindness all the time.

A few of the acts this year are:

  • Donating needed items to PADS, something Colleen and Christine did often;

  • Shopped at Sam’s and donated to a food pantry, something Colleen also did often;

  • Bring a car full of toys to Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital for their toy closet.

As most of you know, Colleen lived her life full of gratitude for the gifts of life she received. She wanted to give back and help others and we will continue doing so.

We have created a Colleen Cares organization Facebook page and an Instagram account. They are in their infancy, but please follow us!

Many things were accomplished this past year. Read about it here. And remember to sign up for our newsletter!!

Thank you to my three men, family, and friends for your constant support.

I am blessed to have you all in my life! We all miss you Colleen.

In honor of Colleen, we urge you to do one act of kindness. These acts do not need to be difficult - giving someone who may look like they are having a rough time a compliment or smile.

You never know what anyone else is going through.
